UK edition

Every test, weighed. One score you can check.

Before a British household spends £200 on an appliance, it reads a dozen reviews that disagree. We read them all, add the lab results and thousands of owner reviews, and score every model against the same published criteria.

How a Council score is built

  1. 01

    Gather the evidence

Independent lab results, manufacturer specifications and current UK prices for every model on the shortlist.

  2. 02

    Read the owners

Thousands of verified owner reviews from UK retailers, read for the faults that only show up after months of use.

  3. 03

    Score to one standard

Five weighted criteria per category, the same for every model. The weights are published on every page.

  4. 04

    Check again

When a price moves, a model is replaced or new test data appears, the comparison is updated and dated.

Seven categories, updated through the year. Each one names a pick for most homes, a best-value choice and the model to skip.
