How we compared them
We read independent robot vacuum tests from British reviewers that measure pick-up on carpet and hard floor, edge cleaning and mopping, plus the manufacturers' specifications and several thousand UK owner reviews. Owner reviews were most useful for navigation faults and app problems, which only show up after weeks of daily runs.
Each robot was scored out of 10 on the five criteria below, with the same weights for every robot vacuum. Suction figures in pascals are quoted for reference, but we scored what the robots actually picked up.

The X10 Pro Omni is the robot most British homes should buy. Its 8,000 Pa of suction handles rugs and pet hair, and its two spinning mop pads press down with about a kilogram of force, which is what shifts kitchen spills.
The dock does nearly everything: it empties the robot, washes and dries the mop pads and refills the water tank. At its usual price of around £430, nothing else here does as much for the money.

Flagship suction and hot-water mop washing for mid-range money.
The Qrevo S Pro brings features that cost £800 two years ago down below £400: 18,500 Pa of suction, a dock that washes the mops in 75°C water and dries them with warm air, and a side brush designed not to tangle.
It relies on LiDAR rather than a camera, so it is a little clumsier around socks and cables. Tidy the floor first and it is excellent value.

A side brush and mop that swing out to reach skirting boards and corners.
Most round robots leave a strip of dust along the skirting board. The L40 Ultra swings its side brush and one mop pad outwards when it reaches an edge, and the difference shows in kitchens and hallways.
Its camera and structured-light sensors also avoid cables and pet mess better than LiDAR-only models. You pay about £160 more than the Qrevo S Pro for those refinements.

The Edge 2 is Roborock's big-number robot: 25,000 Pa of suction and a dock that can hold up to 65 days of debris. On deep rugs and pet hair it is very thorough.
In most homes, though, the extra suction over the Qrevo S Pro makes little visible difference, and it costs £170 more.

For under £200, the Q7 L5+ gives you the two features that matter most: proper mapping, so it cleans in neat rows, and a dock that empties it. Its 8,000 Pa of suction copes with everyday dust and crumbs.
The mop is a simple wet pad that follows the vacuum. Treat it as a bonus, not a floor cleaner.

Before you buy
Suction numbers are not the whole story
Pascals have become a marketing race. Above about 8,000 Pa, brush design, edge reach and how well the robot follows walls matter more for a clean floor than the number on the box.
What the dock should do
A self-emptying dock saves the daily job of emptying a tiny bin. Mop washing and drying stop damp pads from smelling. If you only have carpet, a simpler emptying dock is enough and costs less.
Prepare your home
Every robot here works better with a little tidying: cables off the floor, rug tassels tucked under, and a clear path to the dock.

Are robot vacuums worth it in the UK?
For daily maintenance, yes. A robot keeps floors tidy between deeper cleans, which is why most owners keep a cordless stick for stairs and upholstery.
Do robot vacuums work on carpet?
Modern robots with 8,000 Pa or more handle short and medium carpet well. Very deep shag rugs remain difficult for all of them.
Is robot mopping any good?
Spinning, pressing pads like the eufy's and Dreame's genuinely clean. Fixed wet pads, as on the Q7 L5+, only wipe light dust.
How much do robot vacuum running costs add up to?
Expect to replace dust bags, side brushes and mop pads, typically £30 to £60 a year depending on the model and how often it runs.
Can a robot vacuum replace my normal vacuum?
Not entirely. It cannot do stairs, sofas or car seats, so most homes keep a cordless stick as well.
